Burning Science Questions? Ask Pang Do you have any science query which keep lingering in your mind that you want to get an answer or explanation to it in order to satisfy your curiosity? Or if you are a student and have some questions relating to science and maths from your studies? If your answer is yes, then time for you to clear your doubts in science and maths. Just email me.
Please note that the answers will usually be sent to you via email. However, if you ask a question or I encounter one which is considered challenging and usually appears in examinations and tests, then I will post it under Question of the Week and open to the public, before I upload the answer(s) here. You maybe a winner for answering the question**. Kindly refer below for more information.
Question of The Week This question consists of 2 parts, secondary standard. This is a common O’level question under the chapter on Light. Students are encouraged to learn to be able to answer this question. Though common, many students are not able to answer it correctly. The thickness of the mirror is another confusing one.
Part I: Two mirrors are placed perpendicularly at each other as shown with their reflective sides facing inwards. A point object O in front of both of their reflective sides. Imagine you try to look for images of the object formed by the two mirrors by placing the position of your eye as shown.
Draw light rays (virtual and real) showing how you will be able to see the images.
Part II: How many images are actually formed?
Feel free to answer this question and email me your answers (for both parts) if you agree to the below terms and conditions. You can also write your answers on a piece of paper, scanned it and send to me the image file. In your email, please also include your name, school and level, otherwise, your entry will be rejected. The first two participants who email me with the correct or best (may not be completely correct) answers will be the Winners (will be notified by email). Each will receive a surprise gift (worth about $15) and a $20 dollar voucher to offset fees for small group tuition in our Centre. Deadline is 15 Jan 2009. Winners’ names, school and their original unedited answers will also be posted here. Kindly note that, I will write comments on any answers and explanations from the winners posted here, on the basis of O/A’level examinations requirements and scientific concepts. This is to enable the rest of the students to learn as well.
**Terms and Conditions Apply: 1) Only existing students of Beam the Science can participate. 2) Student’s level has to be lower or at the level of the question. For example, if the question is of O’level standard, only secondary (1-5) school students or students just completed their O’level and have yet entered JC 1 can participate. 3) Poor handwriting for scanned answers will be rejected. 4) Any answers that are sent in after the deadline will be rejected. 5) Judges’ decisions will be final 6) Gifts and vouchers are not exchangeable for cash. 7) Gifts and vouchers are to be collected at the convenience of both student and Beam the Science. 8) Winners’ answers will not be modified but Beam the Science deserves the right to make comments and correct the answers in red; and use part of the answers from all participants. 9) No two participants can have exactly the same answers (except MCQ), otherwise the answers will be rejected. 10) Each student can only participate once for each question. 11) The $20 voucher is only valid for one time payment of 4 tuition lessons.
